While Netflix does not release viewership information regarding their original content, it’s not hard to imagine that its October 2018-premiered original horror series, The Haunting of Hill House, was a massive success, based on fan reaction alone. However, we no longer need to imagine, since the streaming giant has confirmed that a second season is on the way, with Season 2 set to manifest as The Haunting of Bly Manor. Given this pattern, will there be a third installment in Flanagan's Haunting series? Much like Ryan Murphy's horror anthology American Horror Story, the Haunting series features the same actors playing new characters—and "the regulars" are open to returning. The 10-episode series follows Ilonka, an ambitious high school senior who takes up residence at the Brightcliffe Hospice after she’s diagnosed with terminal cancer. Though Flanagan has said that his favorite part of making a show for a teen audience is working with the young actors who portray Brightcliffe’s patients, The Midnight Club features actors of all ages from the director’s past projects.

Take Bly Manor's tagline, "Dead doesn't mean gone." In another horror work, this sentence would be purely foreboding. Within the context of Bly, though, it raises the notion of connecting with loved ones after death. "The stories are boundless," Henry Thomas, who appears in both series, tells OprahMag.com. "Though Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor are both horror genre, they deal with so much more than your average horror genre piece. We're dealing with big themes." Netflix is home to two of our favorite haunted house shows—and more could be on the way. First came The Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan's radical re-envisioning of Shirley Jackson's book of the same name.
For now, watch out for Flanagan's next horror series on Netflix.
“There are more powers that she hasn’t uncovered yet as she learns more about herself,” her portrayer, Kassius Nelson, told Tudum. Nelson’s previous acting roles include playing Jade Albright in Hollyoaks and Fiona in the TV adaption of Series of Unfortunate Events. At the time, Flanagan, who is best known for his Netflix Stephen King adaptations, posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "Put me in, coach... I’ve got a pitch!" Nothing further has come of Flanagan throwing his hat in the Elm Street ring.

"They feel equally haunted. I don't know how much I'd want to live in either," he says. "Hill House is really not a properly operating house. At least in Bly the lights work," she says. There was a two-year gap between The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, and we might have to wait even longer for future Haunting installments. While Flanagan has begun production on another series (more on that, later), there have been widespread production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. Anna Enger's portrayal of the troubled Joey was enough to convince anyone that she was a seasoned actress.

Kate Siegel, who previously portrayed Crane sibling Theo, is returning to The Haunting franchise in an unknown capactiy for The Haunting of Bly Manor. Creator Mike Flanagan (who also happens to be married to Kate) announced the casting via Twitter. Honestly, there aren’t many major faces from Hill House season 1 left out thus far. Also cast as the haunted children Miles and Flora are Benjamin Ainsworth and Amelie Smith. The cast of Bly Manor and Hill House don't play favorites between the shows. When asked to decide whether Hill House or Bly Manor is scarier, Jackson-Cohen is torn.

Esther’s crow familiar, Monty, is transformed into a human to keep tabs on the Dead Boy Detectives. Monty is played by Joshua Colley, who is known for his roles in Netflix’s Senior Year and Love, Victor. The Night Nurse, who works for Death’s bureaucracy, is hunting down Edwin and Charles to make sure they go to their afterlives.
Ruth Connell as Night Nurse
If you couldn't quite pinpoint where you'd seen her, there are plenty of roles to choose from. James Martin Lafferty's role as Ryan in "Hill House" was small in part, but definitely packed a big punch. The actor may have been remembered for his roles in "One Tree Hill," "Crisis," "Oculus," and "Underground." And although Hilliard did an amazing job at portraying that on screen, it's the only big role we've seen him play to date.
The Must-Play Games Coming in 2024
The Haunting of Bly Manor, out October 9, works with Henry James' famous works of horror, most notably A Turn of the Screw. Just like the older version of Theo, McKenna Grace's role as young Theo has quickly made the character a fan favorite. If you couldn't tell by her acting on screen, this wasn't her first go at a role.

If Parker doesn’t immediately look familiar, just imagine her skin rotting away to nothing. The Haunting of Bly Manor is set for a premiere on Netflix sometime in 2020. Netflix renewed The Haunting of Hill House for Season 2, set to showcase a new story, titled The Haunting of Bly Manor. There are countless famous books about houses in which human and ghostly inhabitants coincide.

Netflix's chilling new thriller "The Haunting of Hill House" may only be one season in, but that hasn't kept it from taking the nation by storm. Filled with supernatural encounters as well as heart-wrenching moments of grief, the show has already been categorized as TV's first great horror show and for good reasoning. That physical release ensures that the show will live on as a Halloween classic, ready to be re-watched, or discovered anew by audiences. Being part of that sort of traditional experience is something that humbled both Gugino and Jackson-Cohen, especially for a Netflix series that easily could have been binged and forgotten. There are a lot of ways to interpret the haunts in Hill House, and its cruel grip on the Crains. Whether it’s a metaphor for mental illness, or a purely supernatural thing, it’s clear that viewers have latched onto the show’s depiction of mental illness, from Nell’s crippling depression to Luke’s addiction.
The Haunting of Hill House is one of the few Netflix shows to gets a physical release, as well. An extended director’s cut of the series is currently available to purchase on Blu-ray, complete with new footage that sheds some light on the specifics of the family. Some extended scenes in the pilot focus on Olivia’s relationship with her husband, Hugh (played by Henry Thomas in the past and Timothy Hutton in the present), and the pressure on Steve from his agent to continue writing about Hill House instead of other haunted houses. We get more sequences with Nell in the heartbreaking mid-season episode, “The Bent-Neck Lady,” and some extended moments between Luke and Olivia in the Red Room in the finale.
